The CFO of Krafton, Bae Dong-Geun, expressed the company’s concerns to continue BGMI in India. He said they will ‘closely cooperate’ with the Indian Government to continue BGMI in India.
On the 29th of July, the government of India removed BGMI from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store without any notice. Later on, the government revealed that they banned BGMI under section 69A of IT law to ensure data security. Since then, the entire BGMI community has been waiting for an update regarding the game.
The CFO of Krafton Shows Concern to Continue BGMI in India
In the company’s quarterly earnings meeting, the publisher of BGMI, Krafton, addressed the game’s ban. The Chief Financial Officer of the South Korean company, Bae Dong-Geun, stated that Krafton fully respects and comprehends the Indian government’s concerns and is looking for ways to reintroduce BGMI in India.
The CFO of Krafton, Bae Dong-Geun, said, “We fully respect and understand the Indian government’s concern and as we have been directly running the service based on stringent data security standards and monitoring.” Further, he adds, “We will closely cooperate with the authorities to find ways for the users in India to keep enjoying BGMI.”
This statement implies that Krafton is willing to work with the Indian government to lift the game’s ban in that country. Bae Dong-Geun added that by working with the local market, Krafton significantly expanded the BGMI player base in India.
Since its launch, Battlegrounds Mobile India (and previously PUBG Mobile) have been activating as a catalyst in the development of the Indian Esports ecosystem. A permanent ban on BGMI will lead to some serious repercussions. Krafton willing to work with the government to continue BGMI in India is good news for not only the BGMI fans but for the entire Esports community. However, it will be interesting to see what measures the Indian government and Krafton will take to bring back BGMI.
