IEM Cologne 2022

A fan gets the IEM Cologne 2022 Runner-up Medal from S1mple

Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev gave his IEM Cologne 2022 runner-up medal to a fan after Faze Clan defeated NAVI with a 3-2 scoreline in yesterday’s grand finals.

Intel’s Esports Marketing Manager, George Woo, handed S1mple his runner-up medal. After getting the medal, he removed it from his neck and tossed the medal to the fan in front of the stage after giving it a quick glance and what appeared to be a brief interaction.

S1mple’s IEM Cologne 2022 Interview After Match

In the post-match interview with HLTV, S1mple talked about why he gave his runner-up medal to a fan. He said he did not throw the medal out of frustration.

He said, “No, I’m just traveling all the time with my bag, and I don’t have a place for the big DHL MVP [laughs].” Later he added. “And this medal is… too many medals inside this bag, you know, I need to save them for home.

Despite losing the grand finals, S1mple won the MVP award (medal), alongside the runner-up medal, for his excellent performance in the grand finals. He was the most impactful player on both teams throughout the match.

Last year, NAVI won the IEM Cologne 2021. Although they showed a brilliant performance this year, they failed to maintain the top spot in IEM Cologne. Faze Clan also showed brilliant performance defeating NAVI. On the other hand, there are many more upcoming championships where all the teams will have more chances to prove themselves.

As S1mple said, he did not give away the medal to a fan out of frustration, and we believe it was a kind gesture from his end. Moreover, he did not give away his MVP medal from IEM Cologne 2022. Besides the medals, Faze Clan and NAVI also won the cash prize of USD 400,00 and USD 180,000, respectively. It will be interesting to see whether NAVI will come back in the upcoming tournament of Faze Clan triumph again.
