PGL Major Stockholm 2021 :
PGL Major Stockholm 2021 was the first ‘Major Championship’ after the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was held at Avicii Arena, Stockholm, Sweden between October 26 and November 7.
It broke the previous record of ELEAGUE Major Atlanta 2017 (1,33 million viewers).
NAVI represents the CIS region, therefore there were 2.7 million views on the Russian streams.
Valve, the developer, hosts CS:GO Major Championships every year. This time, the event was live streamed on various platforms in different languages.
The first CS:GO Major took place in 2013 in Jönköping, Sweden. DreamHack organised it with a total prize pool of US$250,000 split among 16 teams.
However, Valve cancelled the previous two Majors StarLadder Major: Berlin 2019 & ESL One Rio Major 2020.
Therefore Valve added the previous prize pools to this event. It had a whopping prize pool of $2,000,000.
On the other hand, Shroud expressed his opinions regarding CS:GO.
- He said that the simplicity of CS:GO is what brings it more viewers.
- Valorant has a variety of heroes and powers, but in CS:GO, the audience understands whether it’s a grenade or smoke.
- So, that extra complexity, that someone can’t appreciate unless they are playing it.
In conclusion, CS:GO still has a huge viewership. Valorant has entered the esports scenario, but it doesn’t diminish the classic gameplay of CS:GO.
