Russian Players Facing Restrictions For Competing at VCT 2022 Masters

Valorant players from Russia might face a ban from competing in the VCT 2022 Masters due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Fnatic and FunPlus Phoenix, both the teams qualified for VCT 2022 Masters from the EMEA region, will have to find a substitute before the main event.

The venue for the main event of Masters 2022 is Reykjavik, Iceland. The championship will run from the 10th to the 30th of April.

Russian Players in VCT 2022 Masters Reykjavik

If Riot Games bans Russian players from competing in Masters Reykjavik, at least three players would be affected. Andrey “BraveAF” Gorchakov from Fnatic, Andrey “Shao” Kiprsky, and Dmitry “SUYGETSU” Ilyushin from FunPlus Phoenix are based in Russia. These three players will not be able to compete in the championship.

On the other hand, Kyryko “ANGE1” Karasov, from FunPlus Phoenix, is based in Ukraine. It is unclear whether he would be allowed to compete in the championship.

According to the sources, Fnatic and FunPlus Phoenix have started to work on finding potential substitutes for the event.

Riot Games will notify all the teams whether they can include Russian players in their lineup on the 28th of March. However, it is doubtful that Russian players can compete in the championship.

Iceland banned all the Russian Aircrafts

VCT 2022 Masters is a LAN event, and players will have to be physically present in Reykjavik to participate in the championship. However, amidst the Russia-Ukraine conflict, many countries, including Iceland, have banned Russian Aircrafts. So, it is another problem Russian players will encounter even if Riot Games allow them to compete in the championship.

Due to the political decision, many esports players from Russia face issues in their careers. Players work and practice hard to compete in such tournaments, and the players and the entire team have to practice to improve their coordinated gameplay.

Both the teams, Fnatic and FunPlus Phoenix, will face massive issues to play with a substitute in the VCT 2022 Masters. It will be interesting to see how the teams face these problems.
