Amidst the Russia and Ukraine conflict, Riot postponed VCT EMEA 2022 Third Week. However, Riot announced in a Tweet answering when will the third week of VCT EMEA will continue.
Riot decided to postpone the championship, because the conflict severely affected some of the organising staff, players, and fans.
The EMEA Valorant tournaments are played online, and most of the players from this region play from their homes or bootcamps in their country. In addition, there are multiple teams from Russia and Ukraine that play in VCT EMEA like Gambit, NaVi, FunPlus Phoenix, and Acend.
Riot to resume the third week of VCT EMEA from this weekend
Valorant Champions Tour will start from this Saturday, the 5th of March. A total of three matches will take place over the span of two days, Saturday (the 5th of March) and Sunday (the 6th of March).
Saturday will feature Super Massive Blaze vs Big Bosslayf Esports (SMB vs BBL Esports) and G2 vs Acend. On the other hand, Sunday will only feature one match, Team Liquid vs London United (TL vs LDN UTD).
After this week, Riot has planned to set up a dual broadcast to cover the previously scheduled matches of week three and continue the schedule of fifth week, simultaneously.
In an official statement, Riot said, “We’re aware that some teams are facing uncertainty regarding if they can continue competing in VCT EMEA with their current starting rosters. Our Competitive Operations Teams are in close communications with these teams, and are exploring potential adjustments to the League’s regulations that will help them navigate through the coming weeks.”
Riot further added that later they might have to change the schedule and they will update the fans soon.
At last, Riot said, “Our thoughts are with our teams, the players, and our fans worldwide during these difficult times.”
Riot’s decision to postpone VCT EMEA was right, but they cannot postpone it for much longer. Hence, they had to continue the championship.
